Art, music, food trucks, museum tours, performances, and beautiful scenery all in one place? For free? Yup, that’s what’s going down at the McNay Art Museum every 2nd Thursday of the Month. And no, the food trucks aren’t free, but everything else is! This is an event I’ve been attending since I first moved to San Antonio. It honestly still surprises me when I hear San Antonio natives say that they’ve never been to the McNay. Founded in 1954, it’s the first modern art museum in Texas. With pieces the likes of Picasso, Cezanne, Matisse, and more, it holds some great pieces of art. Typically the museum closes at 4pm, but on Thursday night it is open until 9pm and admittance is free(usually $20/pp). On top of that, they bring in local acts, artists, and food trucks just for the night.
Then, take a look at these pictures. It has the most beautiful grounds of any museum I’ve visited. You should visit just to see the grounds, even if you’re ‘not that into ‘art’. The courtyard(shown in pictures below) is the absolute best part. The is held inside a Spanish Colonial home that sits on 23 acres of land. Drop by to see a good performance, eat some good food, take a couple of photos, and simply enjoy yourself. Just like the museum claims, the ‘McNay is an oasis in the heart of San Antonio’.
Don’t forget to check back for the next part of my Summer in San Antonio series!
